Abstract

The article discusses the debate on the character of the Ghost (is he a good or evil spirit, does he come from purgatory or hell?) and stresses his main, human, essence. It is noteworthy that Shakespeare has endowed him with ambiguous, mysterious nature, and the Ghost as if characterizes the enigmatic author himself. Shakespeare was not a very talented actor but, according to a testimony, his best role was none other than that of the Ghost.
