Abstract

The article discusses a range ofissues related to the interpretative usage ofverbs ofdestruction. The semantic representation of verbs of interpretive destruction contains the component ‘to cause to’ that differentiates these verbs from the prototypical interpretatives. Analysis shows that the interpretative destruction can be considered as a separate subclass ofthe fundamental classification of predicates.
